ABOUT OUR CLUBS
East Berkshire Wing Chun Kuen was established by John
Brogden with the first training hall opening 1998
in Crowthorne, Berkshire, UK. Our association is grounded in the reality of “Science and Reason, Logic and Evidence” with the tenet to “Continuously Seek Knowledge and Truth, and to Teach Openly“.
OUR OBJECTIVE
Our objective is to teach the complete Wing Chun system in a relaxed and accessible manner, where emphasis is placed on good technique and personal development, allowing students to develop freely and at their own pace. We aim to make effective self-defence accessible to everyone, including those who usually wouldn't contemplate taking up a martial art, or who have been dissuaded by past experience.
TRAINING ENVIRONMENT
Like master Ip Chun's classes in Hong Kong, our classes are conducted informally, without the ritual commonly found in martial arts schools in the West. Our clubs have a friendly atmosphere of co-operation, offering a non-intimidating and non-aggressive training environment. Importance is placed on techniques of non-resistance and controlled use of force, as a result of which, there is little risk of injury.
FREE THINKING STUDENTS
Students follow a syllabus based on a logical and structured program of training. Individuals are taught according to their own stage of development and personal needs. Wing Chun is a concept and natural science therefore we may never reach the point beyond which nothing remains to be learned. As such our teaching method does not lie in small minded servile deference, but rather in passing the torch to independent, open-minded, free and critical thinkers.
SEMINARS
Students have the opportunity to attend seminars with visiting masters. Past seminars have been presented by Grandmaster Ip Chun, sifu Sean Bardoe, sifu Ho Kay, sifu Patrick Leung, sifu Kwok Cheung.
